This poem gives a sense of frequent movement from the mention of countries as far away as Australia and the Phillipines, and from the “military to shining shoes to selling newspapers to finding their way to the Americas to live a completely different life,” and from “black and white to colored pictures, polaroids, and now digital, movies that show and remind us how we all got here.” This last line is particularly intriguing because it documents not only the changes but the different ways in which history is recorded over time.

There is a lot of variety in the details you provide in this poem and a lot of potential material for your interviewer in the class.

Great work.

Your poem is filled with amazing descriptions that allowed me as the reader to have an idea of what’s going on from the very beginning to the very end. I found it to be very interesting and well written as you were able to talk about the things that had meaning in your life whether it be a “stuffed bunny” or your family’s journey to America.
